Tell Me I’m Your National Anthem 🇺🇸✌🏻

I mean, I couldn’t NOT reference Lana Del Rey, right? I mean, Lana Del Rey= Q U E E N

It’s been a minute since I’ve posted! I’ve kind of been taking a break from stuff lately, but also pouring my focus into my YouTube channel and our Etsy, Edison’s Place!

I had to share these awesome retro Levi 505’s with you guys! 😍

hey're high waisted, I love the American flag on them and they are AMAZING.

out a good statement piece that borders on tacky that is just so freaking great?!

Anyways, I am listing these for sale on our Etsy, so you should check them out! 👇🏻

I think my next post on here is going to be about how we have gone about booking things for our Italy trip and some advice I have if you are wanting to plan a trip there for yourself! Hope you all have been doing great!

🌎Ancestry DNA Results🌎

I am so fascinated with the world. All the different countries and cultures, just how vast it is…the different types of people all around the world, what they like to eat, what they think about, common traits, what they do for fun.

I believe that you need to know where you’ve been to know where you’re going—so I finally did something I’ve been wanting to do for a while now—take an DNA test! 😱

I went into it only knowing a few things. For my entire life, I’ve been told that we are very Irish, Scottish, German and Cherokee Indian. 🇮🇪 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🇩🇪

I think taking these tests is so neat because…sometimes, you come out on the other side and your world is turned upside down. Sometimes, there are wild cards and you’re not at all who you thought you were! I’ve actually watched quite a few YouTube videos of people revealing their Ancestry results and thought that it was such a neat idea! I’m planning on doing a video myself probably later this week, if you’d like to see the video format! 🎥 Keep an eye on my YouTube channel! 👀

Without further ado, here is a break down of my crazy results!

I am actually 38% Great Britain, which also includes Scotland and Wales. 🇬🇧

This was very surprising to me. My entire life, I had just assumed I was maybe more Irish than anything else. ☘️As it turns out though, my husband is more Irish than all of us! 😂 He was 46% Irish, which is unheard of and almost half!

The next highest percentage was Irish though at 28%. 🇮🇪 I guess I just always thought and everyone assumed because of my red hair that I was very Irish!

12% Scandinavian was very interesting to me and I had no previously knowledge/suspicions about that at all! This would include Norway, Denmark and Sweden. 🇳🇴 🇩🇰 🇸🇪

10% Europe West would include Belgium, France, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, Lichtenstein, Luxembourg. 🇧🇪 🇫🇷 🇩🇪 🇳🇱 🇱🇺

That made perfect sense for the German! That is mostly from my mom’s side. The Irish was from my dad’s side, Great Britain from both sides.

I told my husband that being the majority Great Britain was actually spot on because I’ve always favored their quick witted, a’la Monty Python type of humor! My grandfather commented also on my love of tea.

Now…here comes some really interesting stuff! Since my husband was almost half Irish, he didn’t have as many variables or smaller percentages, but I had quite a few that really shocked me! 😱

5% Europe East, which includes—brace yourself—Poland, Czech Republic, Austria, Russia, Hungary, Slovenia, Romania, Serbia, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Lithuania, Latvia, Bosnia, Herzegovina, Croatia. 🇵🇱 🇨🇿 🇦🇹 🇷🇺 🇭🇺 🇸🇮 🇷🇴 🇷🇸 🇺🇦 🇧🇾 🇲🇩 🇱🇹 🇱🇻 🇧🇦 🇧🇦 🇭🇷

5% is a small percentage, but still quite a bit in my eyes! Half of these countries I know nothing about and some I had never even heard of! That’s about to change though, I really want to read up on them now!

2% Europe South, which is Italy and Greece! 🇮🇹 🇬🇷 It’s a little percentage, but this excited me since we are going to Italy! I can claim I’m not whole, just 2%. 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

2% Finland/Northwest Russia 🇫🇮 🇷🇺

I’ve always thought Finland had a fun sounding capital. Helsinki. Heelllllllsiiinnnkii.

<1% Middle Eastern, which would include Syria, Iraq, Saudi’s Arabia, Jordan, Oman, Yemen, United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, Israel. 🇸🇾 🇮🇶 🇸🇦 🇯🇴 🇴🇲 🇾🇪 🇦🇪 🇱🇧 🇮🇱

This was shocking to me. While there have been some not so peaceful relationships between my country and the Middle East, this interests me so much!

<1% Iberian Peninsula, which is Spain and Portugal 🇪🇸 🇵🇹

And last, <1% Caucasus, which is Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iran, Iraq, Syria and Turkey. 🇦🇲 🇦🇿 🇬🇪 🇮🇷 🇮🇶 🇸🇾 🇹🇷

I was really excited about my results! I can’t wait to do a YouTube video about it!

Have any of you all ever done an Ancestry DNA test? If you have, were your results what you expected or not? How did that make you feel?

Let me know in the comments below!

💡 YouTube Goals ✨

So, I know I mentioned the other day that I’ve been wanting to focus some more on travel lately…if I had to narrow it down to my biggest passions, they would probably be:

1) Travel.

First and foremost, this is what I live for, what I love doing. Exploring, adventuring, getting out of my comfort zone and just going, seeing and doing.

How this plays out on this blog, I’ve constantly been figuring out, but for this next year, I’m going to try and focus on some more travel content and posts. When we go to Italy in less than 2 months (😱) I’ll definitely have some itineraries and vlogs to post when I get back!

2) Thrifting and Estate Sales

I love them. I think part of the reason why is because there’s a story there and, you can find unique things and save loads of money. I love clothing, home decor or anything that comes used because…it was special to someone else first and I want to take care of it.

I think for this next year, I will definitely do some more posts continuing along these passions. Maybe some posts on what I find, how to find good deals, maybe some more outfit posts using things I’ve thrifted, vintage and modern.

3) Saving Money & Going After Your Dreams<<<<<<<<<<<<
n two very common themes in my life for the last 5 years and I love to get people excited about them! Saving money doesn't have to be boring. Going after your dreams definitely isn’t, and sometimes, believe it or not, they can go hand in hand!

Saving money is actually what made my dream of going to Italy possible. And also, becoming an entrepreneur and self employed has been a dream come true in itself. I love sharing things about petsitting also! So, I will probably share some inspiring posts about how money doesn’t have to be the enemy and how sometimes, striking out on your own and working for yourself can be one of the most rewarding things you’ll ever do.

So, I guess I’ve sort of made an outline now. A direction in which to go for 2018. Over the last few days, I have been fired up and feeling very unstuck.

I’ve encountered a few people lately who just…don’t know how to take charge of their life. I’ve been upset for them, but I’ve also had to realize…it’s their life. They get to choose what they do with it and how they spend their time, but here’s the great thing: I get to do the same with mine. 👍🏻🙌🏻

No more wasting time, making excuses or comparing myself, and definitely no more wishing I could have done this or that. This is a year for making things happen.

That being said, I wanted to let you all be the first to know, other than my Instagram followers, that I am starting a YouTube channel, which you can get to from here! 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻

I decided, you know what? I’m 27. I’m definitely not getting any younger, I don’t really care if I’m not an expert because everyone starts somewhere, and I like editing and making videos, it’s a lot of fun!

So there is a link to my channel! I’ll probably mainly focus on traveling and thrifting on there, so I hope you’ll check it out! Thanks again for reading and for putting up with my thoughts! 💭

I’ve been through a lot lately, but things are often forgedin fire. 🔥 ✌🏻

Cropped Leggings OOTD

So, I realized I hadn’t done an OOTD post in a while–since November!😳–not sure if you guys are feeling those or not and I’ve been kind of questioning myself on my blog content lately. (Question: What are things you all like to see on my blog?Comment on this post!👇🏻)

I’ve kind of been wanting to focus myself more on travel, but anyways…

It actually got up to 60 degrees today. 😱 Since it’s been freezing cold the last few weeks, it was really weird. I also decided to dress up the last few days. It’s done wonders for my mood, even if I don’t really see people as much as the average 9-5 working person does. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I decided to “crop” my leggings and wear them with booties. Really, I should probably have a pair of leggings that is tapered at the ankle, but I don’t and just roll up some longer ones that I have. 😂 I just have to make sure they’re the same length on each side and that they don’t look bulky or weird.

I wore them with a plaid flannel shirt I got at Old Navy the other day. $9.99 on clearance! 🙌🏻 My old flannel shirt had a hole in it and after multiple washes just wasn’t holding up the way I wanted it to.

Another look I did with the same leggings and same boots was this one where I wore a striped shirt and jean jacket I thrifted. Usually I like to wear longer tops with leggings, but I’ve been adventurous and gone shorter lately. I know, scandalous, right? 😂

Which is your favorite? Also, disregard the stupid facial expressions I like to make, haha!

Anyways, let me know in the comments which outfit you liked better and what you would like me to focus on on my blog for 2018? I’ve been having an identity crisis lately. 🤦🏼‍♀️

But on an unrelated side note, I can officially fit my hair in a bun again! 🎉 #basicwhitegirl in me rejoices! My hair has been short for a while now, but I’ve missed being able to do stuff with it.

Crazy Cool Thrifting Finds

If you all have followed me long enough, you know that I am a huge advocate for thrifting. 💯 I love it! In fact, there are few things I love as much as thrifting and finding cool things for really cheap except maybe…traveling, my family, my pets…and Chick-fil-A. 😂 #aintnoshameinmygame

I found the cutest little dog figurine! I collect/resell Made In Japan figurines, in particular, the dogs and cats. They can be worth quite a bit actually and are really collectible! Find the ones that are marked “Made In Occupied Japan” and they are worth even more! That means they were made in the 1940s when the allied forces(USA, Britain..maybe some other people) literally occupied Japan! Pretty neat, huh? 🇯🇵 This little guy is most likely a Japanese Chin or Shitzu if I had to guess.

Another cool find from today, but I didn’t get it at the last minute, was this strawberry sweater. 🍓 I am a sucker for kitschy, random stuff. These even had little shine marks and almost popped off the sweater in a 3D sort of way. Really cool.

One sweater I did take home was this awesome Tundra brand sweater with rabbits all over it! 🐇 I love rabbits because of my pet rabbit, Twix, and this one just called to me. The Tundra brand is a well known 1980’s-1990’s crazy Canadian sweater brand. This one was made from Scandinavian wool.

I’m debating keeping it or selling it. 🤔 I will most likely take more pictures of it, either way, and if it does go on my Etsy, you all will be the first to know!

Have you all made any great thrifting finds lately? Let me know in the comments! ❤️

✨ Holidays ✨: Petsitting, Pecan Pies & More

It’s been crazy the last few weeks!😜 I started getting notifications on my phone from WordPress and I honestly had to remind myself, Avery, you have a blog. I’m a horrible person, who happens to have a lot of responsibilities. 🤗

The last few weeks, I’ve just been trying to balance everything: all the pets I’m watching, holiday parties, making stuff for said parties and dealing with family stuff.

I actually started a blog a few days ago that would be classified as a “Rant & Rave”, but I dropped it. It was mostly about my aunt and my family’s situation lately, but then I just thought, Forget it. Who cares?! Retail therapy.

So, anyways, the last few days, I’ve watched about 12-15 dogs and cats and Tim and I made a strawberry cake, which horrifically stuck to the pan even though I sprayed the crap out of it, but we turned it into cake balls and saved the day! 🙌🏻 Dip anything in white chocolate or chocolate and it can be redeemed. 🍫

Tim also made stuffed mushrooms–I gave him the recipe and he ran with it. I’m so glad I have him around because I was running around like crazy walking animals.

Aside from gifts from family, I’ve received a lot of presents from my petsitting clients, which has been amazing! Everything from bonus money, to Harry and David gift baskets, to ornaments…I wasn’t expecting any of that, but it was so sweet! It definitely cheered me up after my lackluster week.

Really, the biggest updates of late are that we only have one more place to book in Italy—Sorrento, then we get to start booking tours. And I am writing my aunt’s obituary. She asked me as a favor since she knows I’ve always liked to write…I don’t know how it will go, but…we’ll see.

In short, I’m ready for Christmas to be over. We already packed away all our decorations. I’m actually looking forward to New Year’s Eve, something I never do, because another entire year usually seems daunting. Now, I’m excited for it and ready to say bye to 2017.

If I make any resolutions, they’ll be PLANS, not goals, and they will most likely be travel related.

Hope you all had good holidays! 🎄❤️✨

Did you do anything fun? I don’t know about you, but I feel like I went trick or treating for the amount of candy we ended up with! 😂

See the World 🌎

I think everyone should see the world, while they’re relatively young. I wouldn’t say I’m “young”—I know people who are younger than me who have been many more places, but that is not the point. When you want to see the world, it isn’t a race, it’s a journey.

Over the last few days, we have made so much progress on our trip planning to Italy. 🇮🇹 It makes me so happy! We’ve figured out places to stay in Venice, Rome, Florence and Lucca. We only have 3 more days to figure out and then the really, really fun things begin—searching and booking tours! ✔️🤩

It is finally starting to feel real to me, that I will soon be walking around Italy, soaking up the history and sights, tasting gelato and pasta, seeing monuments, watching people go by on Vespas and venturing down wandering, winding streets. 😍

It’s amazing to be able to look back and say, We made this happen. We never gave up.
s on how I’ve been packing for this trip (mostly, I’ve been hoarding tiny toiletries and picking out my favorite clothing from my closet…not an easy task) and maybe some other practical tips. Once we’ve gone and come back, I’ll definitely write some travel guides on the individual cities we went to! 🌎

I can tell you this though—we have a lot in mind that we want to see! Since Venice is the first city we’re going to, we’ll mostly wander and take in the sights and we definitely want to tour Murano and Burano.

In Lucca, we also want to go and see Cinque Terre and Pisa. We want to see the Duomo, Pitti Palace and The Statue of David in Florence. In Rome, we’ll see the Colosseum, of course, The Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain and more…and on the Amalfi Coast, we’ll check out the beaches and Pompeii, a place that always fascinated me as a kid when I read about it in school.

I can’t wait to do this. 🇮🇹❤️

I’ve been wanting to do something like this as long as I can remember, I just didn’t know how. My mom actually got her passport for the first time for this trip and she is 50.

I am so glad we’re doing this. You have to prioritize what you want out of life. Prioritize isn’t as fun of a word as “Dream”, but it’s so true. Get out there and do what you want TODAY. Make steps towards something and do it. 💯
