Velvet Everythingβ™₯️

being thrifty, thrifting

Velvet is a trend that has been around for a while now. I remember in the 1990’s, it was usually incorporated into cute crop tops or dresses, but now it is everywhere, even on shoes!

I really love when velvet comes and adds an unexpected pop in certain accessories! Would you believe I thrifted these shoes?!😍 I found them at Goodwill for only $5.99! They were my size, so I had to get them! Normally, these shoes would retail for anywhere from $14.99-$24.99 easily!

I love the way velvet looks in different lighting, like in these pictures! It has a sheen and life all of its own!

I also found this 1990’s Gap Brand Velvet Shirt!😍 It is actually listed on my Etsy!πŸ‘‡πŸ»

I just loved the red and the fact that it’s such a staple piece, a button down shirt! It’s soft and comfortable, but also stylish! One of those shirts that can be worn normally or tied up!

I also thought it was such a festive red for the holidays coming up!πŸŽ„

If I can give you any tips for velvet, it would be this: THRIFT IT. πŸ™ŒπŸ»

Velvet is one of those things you can easily find at thrift stores, if you’re willing to get out there and look. I mean, you can also buy some newer pieces that incorporate it, but there’s just something about finding it secondhand and vintage!

It’s definitely a trend that has been around for the last year or so and here to stay a little while longer, I think!

What are your thoughts on the material? Do you like velvet? And if so, what’s your favorite color? I have to say green and yellow have always caught my eye!

Fall Vibes

being thrifty, thrifting

Fall is seriously one of my favorite seasons.🍁❀️

The leaves changing and falling, fall scented candles, sweaters…

I decided to have fun and do a fall themed photo shoot!

Someone gave me this WoodWick candle last year and I love burning it around this time of year! 😍 It is Oatmeal Cookie scented and when it burns, it also crackles! What is it about a crackling fire that makes everything seem so cozy?

I really wanted some fall vibes to come across in this shoot, and by the end of it, I just wanted to lay on this quilt and read, so I did!

The books in these pictures are actually for sale on our Etsy shop! I love how old they are and when you’re turning the pages, you can almost go back to another time.

https://www.etsy.com/shop/EdisonsPlace

Most of them are from the late 1800’s-early 1900’s and I love staging pictures with them or setting them on our mantle!

The quilt is one a family member gave us that we take on picnics, the red leaves were sourced from our gorgeous oak tree in our yard and the red coat is actually for sale on our Etsy as well!

It reminds me a lot of Sabrina’s red coat in the new Chilling Adventures of Sabrina series on Netflix and is a true 1960’s vintage wool coat!😍 Who else has been watching the series? It’s been fun and spooky to watch right after Halloween!

The yellow sweater I’m wearing is one I thrifted forever ago for $3.99. It rarely gets cold enough where I live to wear, but I’m obsessed with the color of it!✨

Anyways, just wanted to share some photos I had fun taking! It’s fun sometimes to just do a themed shoot! I feel like the more I practice, the better I’ll get at it!

Yellow Overalls OOTD

being thrifty, thrifting

These overalls are retro, from the late 1980’s/early 1990’s, polyester and AWESOME!πŸ™ŒπŸ»βš‘οΈ

When I first saw them, I loved the look of them: the pockets, the unique straps, the zipper in the back, everything!

Overalls have been a big trend this year and I had never seen any yellow ones before! I decided to list these on our Etsy, Edison’s Place! Disclaimer though, I edited these pics with my Lightroom Preset, so they are way more of a bright yellow than this, but I mean, how cute are they???

*These overalls have sold out in just 24 hours!*πŸŽ‰πŸ˜±

Someone else also pointed out to me that they look a lot like Ronald McDonald’s outfit!πŸ˜‚ TOO TRUE. How great of a costume would that be?!

Anyways, just had to inform you all that yellow overalls exist and they are the coolest.

Do you all like the overalls trend? I’m gonna be honest, my 7th grade self is rejoicing, because I had about 5 pairs, including denim, khaki and even some purple ones!πŸ˜‚ So I love them! What about you?

Feeling Fine in Graphic Tees

being thrifty, thrifting

Who doesn’t love an awesome, comfortable, graphic T-shirt?

Lately, I have scored some great ones at Ross Dress for Less!πŸ™ŒπŸ» I am extremely picky about the T-shirt’s I buy because I don’t want to end up looking like a billboard.πŸ˜‚ A T-shirt has to speak to me on a personal level and I have to agree with it in order to wear it! This “Feeling Fine” shirt was also in my favorite color, so that was a no brainer!

I also got one that says “Original” and a few others that had references to Tokyo on them. If you don’t know this about me, Tokyo has been and is incredibly high on my bucket list! But then again, most of the world is!πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

I paired this shirt with some shorts I made myself, fishnet tights and boots for a cool fall look. I love layering shorts and skirts with tights this time of year!

What are your favorite ways to layer? And what are some of the coolest T-shirt’s you own?

πŸ–€Plaid is RadπŸ–€

Pets

Plaid has been making a big comeback lately in fall fashion and I am all for it!πŸ™ŒπŸ» I have always loved plaid and preppy touches mixed with an edge.

This skirt is one I found on eBay for less than $9.99!

I love pairing it with combat boots, turtlenecks, rocker tees and all kinds of stuff! It’s a very versatile piece.

You didn’t hear this from me, but you can find some amazing gems in thrift stores when it comes to plaid! A lot of times, you can find the skirts and matching blazers, which seems to be a big trend lately!

So, if you want to give plaid a try, look at thrift stores first or try eBay, Shein or Zaful, some online retailers, to find some cute pieces that incorporate it!

What is your favorite color when it comes to plaid? I love a classic red or this gray like I have here! 😍

Vintage Style OOTDS

thrifting

I love fall because it seems like you can have so much more fun with vintage style. You can bring in and incorporate all kinds of cool boots and accessories to an outfit and have I mentioned the colors?!😍

Some of my favorite colors to pair together are rust orange, mustard yellow and navy blue! And the occasional forrest green!

It seems like in spring and summer, it is all about the bright, fun pops of color, but if I’m being honest, I’m more into muted tones myself!

Like the colors in this outfit! This skirt is one from Topshop and I had to have it a few years back! I saw it being worn on the character of Spencer Hastings in Pretty Little Liars and freaking loved it. It’s got part academic sailor, school girl vibes going on, part Suckerpunch, Japanese anime vibes on the other end. πŸ™ŒπŸ» And it has the BEST POCKETS.

I found this skirt on eBay, believe it or not, and paid around $16 for it because one button was off of it, which I quickly fixed myself upon it arriving by mail! The white top I’m wearing was thrifted from a local Goodwill for $3.99. My mustard yellow cardigan is one I found at Ross the other day for just $5.99!

The boots I have are the Born brand. I found them at Dillard’s 5 years ago and loved their vintage look. I paid $59.99 for them, but they were originally $139, so that was a heck of a good deal!!!

This other outfit is another example of how I like to layer: boots, tights, a tank top dress and a baggy sweater over it! I got the sweater forever ago at Marshall’s so I don’t remember what I paid for it—not over $20 though—and it has become one of my go to pieces. The dress was $9.18 from Forever 21 and I loved the brown and polka dots!

I just love getting to mix modern and vintage looks, especially in fall! 🍁😍

What are your favorite colors to wear around this time of the year?

Stripes Galore OOTDS

thrifting

So, I have a thing for stripes. πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

I’m the type of person who buys alooooot of neutrals and has a favorite top in every color in her closet! However, I do like patterns like polka dots and especially stripes!

Stripes can be so great to add interest to an outfit that would otherwise be boring.

I also love the color mustard yellow. It’s hard to find things in this color, unless you just get lucky or are shopping online, it seems, but I love it! It tends to go well with my hair and skin tone.

So, when I found this jumpsuit on a girl’s Poshmark for $29.99, I had to have it! It’s more than what I would normally pay for clothing, but it was a statement piece and I brought it to Italy with me. And it incorporated two of my favorite things: mustard yellow and stripes!

As you can see, it can also be worn different ways! It’s actually strapless, so I will wear a chambray top over it and tie it off! Everyone always thinks it’s just pants for this reason, but I love that it is so versatile!

Do you have a favorite color that you tend to buy when it comes to clothing? And what are your most versatile pieces in your closet?
